Gov’t News: New NGA Director and Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary Named

Robert Cardillo has joined the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency as the agency’s director.

He most recently served as the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s deputy director for intelligence integration.

Cardillo succeeds Letitia Long, who will retire after 36 years of government service.

Cardillo took over the director post in a ceremony presided over by Michael Vickers, undersecretary of defense for intelligence, at NGA’s Springfield, Virginia-based headquarters.

Cardillo previously worked to provide daily briefings to the president.

Sanjeev Bhagowalia has been named deputy assistant secretary and chief information officer at the Treasury Department.

“Over the past three years, Sonny has helped Hawaii leapfrog from the back of the pack in technology and cybersecurity to the front of the line and we are now one of best in the country,” Abercrombie was quoted as saying.

“We have the right plans and have completed many projects, thanks to his invaluable leadership.”

Bhagowalia was Hawaii state CIO since July 2011 and later served as technology and cybersecurity advisor to Gov. Neil Abercrombie.
