Mark Gerencser, managing partner of Booz Allen Hamilton’s global commercial business has written an article surrounding questions and the potential of big data for the University of Maryland, University College’s Achiever Magazine.
The more than 30-year company veteran has helped lead wide-ranging operations of the McLean, Va.-based company during his tenure, including serving six terms on its board of directors and creating the homeland security practice.
Besides serving as chairman of the board of visitors for UMUC, Gerencser participates in a number of external leadership roles including on the board of directors for Business Executives for National Security and a bipartisan policy center commission addressing energy security policy for the U.S.
In the article, the Booz Allen executive discusses the future of big data, including its inherent security risks and extraordinary revenue driving opportunities.
“We generate more data every two days than we did in aggregate from the dawn of early civilization through the beginning of the 21st Century,” Gerencser says in the article.
“Moreover, this information explosion continues to accelerate each year by 40%.”
He explains that companies have a new set of opportunities and responsibilities because of this “Big Data Revolution” and standards must be developed for protecting personal, corporate and sensitive data.
A perspective that executives listen to in the GovCon industry, Gerencser was named one of the top 25 most influential consultants in the world in by Consulting Magazine in 2007, Top 10 Game Changers in Washington D.C. for 2009 and one of the Top 20 People to Watch in 2011 by ExecutiveBiz.
